Construction News – 2024

Dear Reader

Welcome to our first newsletter of 2024, we are glad to see a busy start to 2024 and to be moving on from a ‘challenging’ 2023. We have seen an encouragingly busy start to 2024 for our estimating team and of course welcome new enquires too.

Live projects include our 122-unit HA residential scheme in Wickford, CI upgrades for Mercedes Benz of Lakeside, RAAC works at Billericay School and the new Digital and Creative Hub in Queen Street, Colchester, where we recently welcomed a cohort of construction students from Colchester Institute. These students are undertaking their construction management degree and attended the site and listened to a short presentation and spoke with our Site Manager, James Wilby and Tristan Mosley from Daniel Connal regarding specific health & safety matters.

Over the past few months, we have achieved completion on a few schemes including an industrial unit in Haverhill for Real 8 Group, the second phase of our scheme in Stanton, where we handed over six high specification four-bedroom houses, completing the overall project which included a local Co-op store. We have also completed a commercial extension for Chaplane Accident Repair Centre on Colchester Business Park.

We have been collaborating closely with Colchester Institute in recent months to encourage students to pursue careers in the construction industry. Recently, four photography students captured creative images of the groundbreaking ceremony at our site in Queen Street, Colchester. We believe in close collaboration between the construction industry and other industries to demonstrate the wide and varied opportunities that the Construction Industry presents.

This edition of our Newsletter has a lot for you to discover, but should you have any questions or would like any specific information, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me.

LIVE: Queen Street Digital Creative Hub, Colchester

We are thrilled to share the progress we’ve made since breaking ground in January at our Queen Street project for Colchester City Council and Colchester Amphora Trading Limited in Queen Street

Works have been moving steadily forward, marking significant milestones along the way. Here’s a glimpse of what we’ve accomplished so far: We have successfully installed all 57 piles that will serve as the foundation for the upcoming structure.

Building upon the foundation, we have commenced work on the ground beams and reinforced concrete slab, laying the base for the next phases of construction. As we move into the next quarter, we are gearing up to install the structural steel frame. This pivotal step will begin to outline the shape and form of the building, marking an exciting milestone for all involved.

Once the structural steel frame is in place, our focus will shift towards installing timber joists and deck flooring for each level of the building. This progression will bring us closer to achieving the vision of the Digital Creative Hub.

We have included a selection of images from the site visit attended by Colchester Institute students who are currently studying Construction Management Degrees.
