Apex 12, Phase 2, in Colchester reaches key construction milestone

A significant project milestone was reached in the construction of a new £5m office facility in Colchester this month. Further expansion of the existing “Apex 12” business park in Ardleigh by developer NEEB Holdings will provide an additional 26,000 sq. ft. of commercial office facilities. A ‘topping out’ ceremony, which is a traditional industry event to mark the completion of the roof, was attended by the client team and firms involved in its construction.

The prestigious development on Old Ipswich Road, located next to the A12, includes two new buildings with varying sizes of office space, modern and high-specification infrastructure, and an extensive car park with electric charging points set in a landscaped environment. The facility will be ready for Spring 2023.

This second phase of works continues the strong working relationship between Horizon Construction and Wincer Kievenaar Architects. Together they delivered the first phase of offices at Apex 12 in 2010, and they are also currently involved in delivering an £18m affordable housing scheme in Wickford, Essex.

NEEB Holdings’ joint managing director, Roger Raymond, and his team attended the topping out event, along with other members of the project team, including Phil Holding, managing director at Horizon Construction, and Phil Branton, director at Wincer Kievenaar.

Phil Holding, said: “We were delighted to be invited back by NEEB Holdings to undertake the second phase of development at Apex 12. The additional commercial space will allow more businesses to relocate to this idyllic location and benefit from high-quality facilities. With the rise of hybrid working and people’s well-being at work, this is another example of a future-proofed approach to business.

“The success of the collaboration between the firms involved in its construction is now evermore tangible following the completion of roof works on both buildings. With the harsh winter months ahead, this milestone is also welcomed by the dedicated and skilled tradespeople working on site.”
