Horizon Construction hosted its inaugural Charity Golf Day at Hintlesham Golf Club on Wednesday, 24th May 2023. Attended by 50 guests, it raised £2,500 for Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity.
The day could not have been more perfect. The weather graced us with warm sunshine, light winds and a vibrant but dry course. It was a joy to be outdoors, finally wearing shorts, short sleeve shirts and not having to worry about carrying anything to keep warm. The facilities and course at Hintlesham Golf Club could not have looked more inviting for a day of golf.
Following breakfast rolls and drinks on the club’s balcony, a welcome and event briefing by our managing director, Phil Holding, the 4-ball tournament commenced with all teams taking to the course at 9.30am.
All golfers represented businesses involved in the region’s construction industry and brought with them a full range of golfing experience and handicaps; from regular, seasoned golfers, to those who were less frequent with their golf clubs.
The 18-hole golf course did not disappoint in delivering exciting challenges for all teams. Two refreshment buggies were regularly doing their rounds to keep players hydrated with a drink (or drinks!) of their choosing.
With much enjoyment on the course, the day was focused on raising money for the serious and sobering work undertaken by Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity (“Lighthouse Club”). It is the only charity in the UK that provides emotional, physical and financial wellbeing support to construction workers and their families. Sarah Poirier from the charity attended the day and reminded everyone after the golf of the hard, cold reality of the facts in our industry.
The day was rounded off with a two-course meal, prize giving and a raffle inside the clubhouse. Many of our guests remained with us until the evening.
Following the generous donations, sponsorship and money raised from our event, we are delighted to pledge £2,500 to Lighthouse Club.
It was a wonderful day of golf and a huge success. Congratulations to all the winners, especially the Potter Raper team for winning the best score of the day.
